In1900, Wilbur Wright wrote to French aviation pioneer Octave Chanute (1832-1910) and expressed the belief that "flight is possible to man...and I feel that it will soon cost me an increased amount of money if not my life".

Space Aviators

In human spaceflight, a pilot is someone who directly controls the operation of a spacecraft while located within the same craft. This term derives directly from the usage of the word "pilot" in aviation, where it is synonymous with "aviator". Note that on the U.S. Space Shuttle, the term "pilot" is analogous to the term "co-pilot" in aviation, as the "commander" has ultimate responsibility for the shuttle.

Baron Manfred Von Richthofen was a German military aviator, born in Breslau. Richthofen painted his plane red to flaunt his prowess in the air and thus earned the nickname of the Red Knight of Germany or the Red Baron.

Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart is known for her flights across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and for her attempt to fly around the world. In 1932 she became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean alone, establishing a new record for the crossing: 13 hours 30 minutes.
